Koh Phangan
taxi at night.

After dark the island slows down and shared transport thins out. Whether it's a 5am ferry or a late night out, here's how to make sure you always have a safe ride.

What to expect after dark

Koh Phangan doesn't have a 24-hour taxi rank. Shared songthaews become scarce once the evening winds down, and flagging something last-minute late at night can mean long waits and higher, negotiated fares. The reliable answer is to pre-book: agree your pickup and price in advance, and your driver is there when you need them.

When you'll want a night transfer

  • Early-morning ferries: many boats to Koh Samui, Koh Tao and the mainland leave at or before dawn — pre-booked pickups get you to Thong Sala on time.
  • Late flights & arrivals: if your ferry lands in the evening, having a driver waiting saves hassle at the pier.
  • Nights out & parties: from dinner in Thong Sala to the Full Moon Party, a booked return means no scramble for a ride home.
  • Airport connections: we can time a pre-dawn run to make your onward flight from Samui with room to spare.
Mr M runs pre-booked transfers day and night. A small out-of-hours surcharge may apply for very late or very early trips — always agreed upfront, never a surprise.

Staying safe at night

The island's roads are unlit in many places and the hills are unforgiving, so night is the worst time to be on an unfamiliar scooter — particularly after a drink. Let a local driver who knows every bend handle it. Book ahead, share your pickup details, and simply enjoy your night.
